House Bill Aims To Give States Enviro Review Power

Law360, New York (July 15, 2011, 7:19 PM EDT) -- U.S. Rep. Ken Calvert, R-Calif., proposed a bill Thursday that would empower states to enter agreements with U.S. agencies in which the states would assume federal environmental review responsibilities for infrastructure projects.

The Reducing Environmental Barriers to Unified Infrastructure and Land Development Act of 2011, or H.R. 2538, would expand on a 2005 pilot program that allowed a limited number of states to ensure National Environmental Policy Act compliance for Federal Highway Administration projects, according to Calvert.
