NRC To Ask Experts To Assess Task Force Suggestions

Law360, New York (July 19, 2011, 2:54 PM EDT) -- U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission members said Tuesday they would ask outside experts to weigh in on an internal task force's report urging the agency to reform its patchwork system for policing nuclear plants after the recent nuclear catastrophe in Japan.

During a two-hour briefing, three of the NRC's five commissioners emphasized that the July 12 recommendations were merely a first step in implementing lessons learned from a March 11 earthquake that eventually led to a meltdown at Japan's Fukushima Daiichi plant.
