Preferential Trade Boom Poses New Questions For WTO

Law360, New York (July 20, 2011, 4:25 PM EDT) -- The World Trade Organization reported Wednesday that the number of bilateral and regional trade agreements had exploded in recent years, creating new challenges and complexities for the organization as it grapples with complications arising from the evolving pacts.

In its World Trade Report 2011, the WTO identified more than 300 current preferential trade agreements and found more than a dozen currently under negotiation, representing a more-than-fourfold increase over the last two decades. In 1990 there were just 70 such pacts in force, the report said....
