Sens. Block Vote On Offshore Drilling Safety Bill

Law360, New York (July 21, 2011, 7:16 PM EDT) -- The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee failed to hold key votes Thursday on legislation to improve offshore drilling safety as lawmakers butted heads over a proposal to share federal energy revenues with coastal states.

Eight of the committee’s 10 Republicans, along with Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., walked out of a markup of the bill amid disagreement over an amendment to give coastal state a larger cut of offshore energy production revenues, preventing the committee from reaching a quorum.
