Diligence On Conflict Minerals Starts Now: State Dept.

Law360, New York (July 22, 2011, 3:43 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of State last week issued guidance for businesses to implement a requirement that companies report to the government whether their products use minerals that finance the armed conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

“The department holds that it is critical that companies begin now to perform meaningful due diligence with respect to conflict minerals,” the State Department said in a statement released on July 15.
