Swepco Settles Some Suits Over Ark. Power Plant

Law360, Washington (July 25, 2011, 7:16 PM EDT) -- Southwestern Electric Power Co. said Monday that it had settled multiple lawsuits seeking to stop it from continuing construction on a $1.7 billion coal-fired power plant in Arkansas, though the Sierra Club and others are keeping up the fight.

The suits center on the planned John W. Turk Jr. Power Plant in southwest Arkansas that was approved by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, but challenged by the Sierra Club and other groups who claimed Swepco, the Corps and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service failed...
