Liu Nominated For Calif. Supreme Court

Law360, New York (July 26, 2011, 3:55 PM EDT) -- California Gov. Jerry Brown on Tuesday nominated Goodwin Liu — the University of California, Berkeley, law professor whose nomination to the federal appeals bench was scuttled by Republicans in the U.S. Senate — to sit on the state's Supreme Court.

Liu was President Barack Obama's pick for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, but Democratic senators failed to muster the votes to override a filibuster led by Republicans who viewed the law professor as a would-be judicial activist.
