Judge Won't Bar Federal Funding For Stem Cell Research

Law360, New York (July 27, 2011, 9:39 PM EDT) -- A federal judge in Washington tossed a suit Wednesday challenging the Obama administration's funding of human embryonic stem cell research, finding that National Institutes for Health grants did not violate a law banning taxpayer dollars from going toward research that harms embryos.

President Barack Obama in 2009 lifted restrictions on embryonic stem cell research funding put in place by the Bush administration, allowing the NIH to fund research on stem cells that were already derived from embryos donated privately or were originally used for reproductive purposes...
