German Watchdog Fines Fire Truck Co. €18M For Cartel

Law360, New York (July 27, 2011, 5:25 PM EDT) -- Germany's antitrust watchdog fined fire truck manufacturer Iveco Magirus Brandschutztechnik GmbH €17.5 million ($25.1 million) Wednesday for its alleged role in a scheme to divvy up the market for fire engines with turntable ladders.

For nearly a decade, Iveco sales managers regularly met with counterparts at rival Metz Aerials GmbH & Co. KG to divide public tenders for the emergency vehicles, using prepaid cellphones and a soccer-based code to conceal their agreements, according to the German Cartel Office.
