Insurers Fight Coverage For Drummond Pollution Claims

Law360, New York (July 28, 2011, 7:14 PM EDT) -- Travelers Casualty and Surety Co. and two other insurers on Wednesday filed suit in Alabama federal court seeking to avoid covering Drummond Co. Inc. in litigation that alleges the company’s coke production operations released pollution that caused injuries and property damage.

Travelers, St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Co., and U.S. Fidelity and Guaranty Co. issued Drummond and its predecessor Alabama By-Products Corp. nearly two dozen primary and excess liability insurance policies between 1944 and 1999, according to the suit.
