DOE Set To Begin Talks On New Transformer Rules

Law360, New York (July 29, 2011, 5:33 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Energy on Friday announced that it would begin negotiations to potentially amend efficiency standards for power distribution transformers, the result of a 2009 settlement with environmental groups over standards that the enviros considered inadequate.

The department announced that it would appoint a negotiating committee so that stakeholders from all sides could discuss the standards. Ideally, the negotiators will come to a consensus that will then form the basis of any changes, the DOE said.
