Spain Competition Watchdog Probes Oracle After HP Push

Law360, New York (August 1, 2011, 2:56 PM EDT) -- Spain's competition regulator said Friday it had launched a probe into Oracle Corp. prompted by a complaint from Hewlett-Packard Co. urging an investigation into whether the business software giant has abused its dominant position in the field of relational databases.

The Spanish Competition Commission, or CNC, said in a brief announcement that the investigation was related to Oracle's March decision to suspend all software support for Intel Corp.'s Itanium processors, used in HP's Integrity line of servers.
