Proposed Inpatient Rule To Affect Specialty Hospitals

Law360 (June 5, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- On May 3, 2007, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) published in the Federal Register the inpatient prospective payment system (IPPS) proposed rule for the 2008 fiscal year. If implemented as proposed, the rule would have a significant impact on specialty hospitals. Specifically, the proposed rule includes certain severity-based payment adjustments that would likely reduce specialty hospital payments.
