Ford Asks Fed. Circ. To Nix $55M Car Light Patent Suit

Law360, Washington (August 3, 2011, 6:24 PM EDT) -- Ford Motor Co. told the Federal Circuit on Wednesday that a $55 million infringement award a car emergency light inventor won against the company could not stand because it was necessary to disassemble its product to suggest possible infringement.

Inventor Jacob Krippelz won the infringement award in November 2009 when a judge ruled he deserved double the $23 million awarded a year earlier by a jury, plus interest, for Ford’s willful infringement of the lighting technology.
