Germany Plans Antitrust Reforms To Match EU Policy

Law360, New York (August 3, 2011, 5:13 PM EDT) -- Germany unveiled plans Tuesday to strengthen its antitrust law and bring its national merger reviews more into line with the European Union's competition procedures.

The proposal is designed to speed up antitrust proceedings and make it easier for consumer groups to bring enforcement cases over anti-competitive behavior, Germany's Minister of Economics and Technology Philipp Rosler said.

Rosler said one of the main goals is to provide consumer associations with better tools to enforce German law on restraints of competition.
