Sen. Threatens To Block DOI Nominee Over Gulf Oil Leases

Law360, New York (August 3, 2011, 7:30 PM EDT) -- Sen. David Vitter, R-La., said Wednesday that he would block the nomination of a high-level U.S. Department of the Interior nominee until the Obama administration extends hundreds of Gulf of Mexico oil drilling leases that are set to expire this year.

Vitter said he would halt Rebecca Wodder's nomination to be DOI’s assistant secretary for fish and wildlife and parks until the agency extends 300 leases impacted by the temporary moratorium on new drilling permits imposed in the wake of the Deepwater Horizon spill.
