Spain Hits Gas Natural With €3.3M Antitrust Fine

Law360, New York (August 4, 2011, 7:43 PM EDT) -- Spain's antitrust watchdog on Thursday fined Spanish energy company Gas Natural SDG SA €3.27 million ($4.7 million) for blocking competition in marketing natural gas services to customers, marking the second time the utility has been penalized for anti-competitive behavior in the past three months.

The Spanish Competition Commission, or CNC, said Gas Natural refused to allow customers to switch to another energy supplier through recorded requests from 2007 to 2009. It also said Gas Natural spread misleading and derogatory information about competitors in mass mailings to...
