NM Coal Plant Owner Vows To Appeal EPA Retrofit Order

Law360, New York (August 8, 2011, 2:12 PM EDT) -- The owner of a New Mexico coal-fired power plant vowed Friday to appeal a new U.S. Environmental Protection Agency rule that would drastically cut plant emissions in order to improve the views at the Grand Canyon and other national parks.

The San Juan Generating Station has five years to make the cuts in nitrogen oxide and sulfur dioxide emissions, the EPA said Friday. The cuts will reduce the plant's negative affects on visibility at 16 parks by as much as 50 percent, the EPA said....
