Bill Seeks To Boost Geothermal Power Use

Law360, New York (June 7, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In a continued effort to increase the use of renewable and efficient energy, a bipartisan group of U.S. senators has proposed a bill that would shift 20% of the country's electrical energy to geothermal power by 2030.

The National Geothermal Initiative Act of 2007, or S. 1543, would provide about $140 million in funding for research, development, assessment and exploration of the eco-friendly energy source by 2012. It was introduced to the Senate Committee on Energy & Natural Resources on Wednesday.
