EEOC Sues Old Dominion Over Alcoholic Driver Policy

Law360, New York (August 16, 2011, 4:08 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission sued Old Dominion Freight Line Inc. in Arkansas on Tuesday, alleging the shipping company's policy of barring admitted alcoholics from truck driver jobs violates federal disability law.

The EEOC says that Old Dominion maintains a policy that bans any driver who self-reports alcohol abuse from occupying the more lucrative driving positions at the company, and conditions their return to the jobs on enrollment in private treatment programs, in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
