Tobacco Co. Seeks High Court Look At Master Settlement

Law360, Washington (August 16, 2011, 6:32 PM EDT) -- General Tobacco earlier this month asked the U.S. Supreme Court to weigh a decision by Arkansas' highest court that it must pay $2.45 million it owes the state as part of a 1998 master settlement agreement between numerous states and tobacco companies.

According to General Tobacco's petition, filed Aug. 2 and obtained Tuesday, the Supreme Court of Arkansas' March decision also reversed the Pulaski County Circuit Court's ruling that Vibo Corp., doing business as General Tobacco, was on the hook for the $240 million it owed...
