Panel Backs Most Allegra Ad Claims

Law360, New York (August 17, 2011, 1:41 PM EDT) -- An advertising industry self-regulation body on Tuesday backed claims by Chattem Inc., maker of allergy medication Allegra, that “only Allegra combines fast, nondrowsy, 24-hour relief,” but also said it should stop claiming the product provides immediate relief.

The National Advertising Division of the Council of Better Business Bureaus said Schering-Plough Healthcare Products, maker of the allergy drug Claritin, had challenged several Chattem advertising claims, which also included assertions that Allegra was the “No. 1 prescribed allergy medicine” and that  “only Allegra delivers fast relief from your...
