Enviros Urge EPA To Create National Coal Ash Rule

Law360, New York (August 17, 2011, 2:48 PM EDT) -- Environmental groups Earthjustice and Appalachian Mountain Advocates on Wednesday asked the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to establish federal mandatory standards for coal ash pollution, saying states had utterly failed in their attempts to regulate the combustion byproducts.

In a report detailing 37 states' purportedly dreadful track records in controlling coal ash pollution, the environmental groups claimed it was “absolutely essential” the EPA create a national coal ash rule under Subtitle C of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act rather than merely set up guidelines for states...
