Rare Win For Domestic Worker At Trial

Law360, New York (June 11, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A Maryland jury has awarded a domestic worker over $61,000 in damages for an unjust enrichment claim she made against her former employers.

After a two-week trial, a jury in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland found that domestic worker Fikre Wondimante was owed $61,375 in back pay from her former employers, Fana and Mehret Assefa. However, the jury did not find that the defendants were employers under the definition of the Fair Labor Standards Act and the Maryland Wage and Hour Law....
