NRC Votes For Fast Action On Japan Task Force Plan

Law360, New York (August 19, 2011, 4:23 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission said Thursday it had voted to quickly implement 11 of 12 short-term recommendations made by an expert panel that examined lessons learned from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident in Japan.

The NRC established the Near-Term Task Force in response to the nuclear reactor crisis that followed a March 11 earthquake and tsunami. The Task Force presented its report to the NRC on July 12, recommending safety precautions that could improve responses to emergency situations caused by earthquakes, floods and power outages....
