Ohio City Settles Suit Over Lake Erie Pollution

Law360, New York (August 25, 2011, 12:46 PM EDT) -- A city in northern Ohio will pay a $150,000 civil penalty and make extensive sewer systems improvements to cut overflows that have polluted Lake Erie, authorities announced Wednesday.

Under the settlement, Euclid, Ohio, must implement a plan to reduce or eliminate untreated sanitary sewage and stormwater overflows from its combined sewer system, bypasses around the treatment systems of a city wastewater treatment plant, and sanitary sewage overflows from the city's separate sanitary sewer system, according to a statement from the U.S. Department of Justice, the Environmental...
