DOT May Kill Safety Exemptions For Old Pipelines

Law360, New York (August 25, 2011, 3:55 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Transportation said Thursday that in an effort to improve safety, it was considering removing exemptions that allow older oil and gas pipelines to operate at higher pressures, a more drastic proposal than the one before Congress.

The proposition came as part of an advance notice of proposed rulemaking published in the Federal Register by the DOT's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration.
