UK Seeks Deeper Antitrust Review Of Stericycle Deal

Law360, New York (August 25, 2011, 4:17 PM EDT) -- The U.K.'s Office of Fair Trading on Thursday referred Stericycle Inc.'s acquisition of medical sector waste management company Ecowaste Southwest Ltd. to the country's Competition Commission for further review, citing concerns that the completed deal raised antitrust concerns in southwestern England.

According to the OFT, Lake Forest, Ill.-based Stericycle's U.K. subsidiary SRCL Ltd. provides waste management services throughout England and Wales, including to the medical sector. Ecowaste provides the same services in the country's southwest region, with a treatment facility in Avonmouth, Bristol.
