Judge Orders Muslim Cop To Ditch Head Scarf

Law360, New York (June 14, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In a decision that is sure to touch off controversy, a judge has dismissed the claims of a female Muslim police officer who accused the Philadelphia police department of committing religious discrimination by not allowing her to don Islam's required head covering.

On Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Harvey Bartle knocked down the claims of longtime police officer Kimberlie Webb, ruling that the Philadelphia police department's uniform policy should override an individual officer's religious obligations.
