FTC Returns $3.2M To Warranty Robo Call Scam Victims

Law360, New York (August 31, 2011, 4:31 PM EDT) -- The Federal Trade Commission announced Wednesday it was refunding a total of about $3.2 million to consumers who bought fake auto warranties from robo calls allegedly engineered by Transcontinental Warranty Inc., a scheme to which two Transcontinental executives have pled guilty.

The refunds are coming from settlements the FTC netted from Transcontinental and Voice Touch Inc., a telemarketer Transcontinental allegedly hired to carry out the scheme. The deals resolved lawsuits accusing the two companies of placing hundreds of millions of robo calls that attempted to trick...
