UK Charges 1st Person Under New Bribery Law

Law360, New York (August 31, 2011, 4:46 PM EDT) -- U.K. officials announced Wednesday that prosecutors had brought their first case under the nation's new anti-bribery law since it went into effect on July 1.

Prosecutors accuse administrative clerk Munir Yakub Patel of receiving a bribe on Aug. 1 after The Sun newspaper allegedly busted him on camera taking £500 ($812) in cash to fix a speeding ticket, according to officials and the Sun's online reports about its investigation.
