Senate Moves To Vote On Patent System Overhaul Bill

Law360, New York (September 6, 2011, 8:30 PM EDT) -- Overhauling the U.S. patent system came a step closer to fruition Tuesday when the U.S. Senate closed off debate on the reform legislation, poising itself to give final approval to the America Invents Act possibly by the end of the week.

The Senate voted 93-5 to end debate on legislation that would change the U.S.' first-to-invent system of awarding patents to a first-to-file and allow the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to keep more of the user fees that have often been diverted to unrelated programs....
