FDA To Fully Enforce Foreign Food Rejection Law

Law360, New York (September 1, 2011, 7:30 PM EDT) -- In an effort to identify possible food safety risks before they reach the United States, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Thursday it will require importers of foreign foods to report the name of any country that has refused to accept their products beginning Tuesday.

The FDA announced that the discretionary period of enforcement for the rule, which began July 3, will end Tuesday. The rule is part of a new set of regulations under the Food Safety Modernization Act, a sweeping food safety law...
