Anglo American, Lafarge Deal Draws UK Antitrust Probe

Law360, New York (September 2, 2011, 4:52 PM EDT) -- A proposed joint venture between Anglo American PLC and Lafarge SA that would combine their construction materials businesses in the U.K. will be investigated by the country’s Competition Commission, the U.K.’s Office of Fair Trading said Friday.

The OFT referred the proposed joint venture to the independent antitrust agency after concluding that such a collective enterprise could adversely impact competition in the U.K.’s construction industry, according to a statement from the OFT.
