In Bow To Business, Obama Pulls EPA Smog Rules

Law360, New York (September 2, 2011, 1:02 PM EDT) -- President Barack Obama on Friday ordered the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to withdraw proposed rules that would have sharply tightened restrictions on air pollutants that cause smog, saying the decision would save state and local governments from expensive regulations.

In a letter Friday to EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson, the White House said it would unnecessarily burden states and cities to release new rules now, when the ozone standards are up for reconsideration under the Clean Air Act in 2013.
