DOE Levies $55K Fine For Nuclear Waste Violations

Law360, New York (June 15, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Energy will fine the company in charge of the Idaho Cleanup Project at the Idaho National Laboratory site as much as $55,000 for violations of nuclear safety requirements, the DOE said Friday.

The regulator’s Idaho Operations Office has sent a preliminary notice of violation to CH2M-Washington Group Idaho LLC after discovering numerous violations in its radioactive waste processing activities during a site assessment in May 2006. The DOE’s site check was prompted by a complaint from a CWI employee, the department said....
