US Scores WTO Win In Chinese Tire Duty Row

Law360, New York (September 6, 2011, 12:18 PM EDT) -- The World Trade Organization on Monday gave final approval to U.S. safeguard duties imposed on imports of Chinese tires, rejecting China's challenge to the tariffs and finding the U.S. had acted consistently with its WTO obligations when imposing the punitive tax.

The WTO Appellate Body said U.S. officials had not failed to properly evaluate imports of tires from China before signing off on the duties, upholding a decision handed down by a WTO panel in December that China had appealed.
