Chevron Agrees To $4.5M Payout Over Utah Oil Spills

Law360, New York (September 6, 2011, 12:39 PM EDT) -- A Chevron Corp. subsidiary has agreed to pay $4.5 million to settle claims brought by Utah and Salt Lake City over two spills that leaked crude oil into an area creek and river in 2010, the city said Tuesday.

Chevron Pipeline Co. will pay $1 million to Salt Lake City to settle “lost use” claims and a $500,000 civil penalty to Utah, as well as $3 million for projects to restore the impacted waterways, the city said.
