EU Seeks More Scrutiny Of Cross-Border Energy Deals

Law360, New York (September 7, 2011, 1:33 PM EDT) -- The European Commission on Wednesday unveiled a plan that would require member states to share more information about proposed energy deals involving countries outside the European Union with the regulator, which could seek to block deals if it objects to them.

EU Energy Commissioner Guenther Oettinger said in a statement that better sharing of information about deals with countries like Russia and Libya was necessary to ensure that new agreements benefit Europe's energy security and don't break EU laws.
