Md. Court Affirms Water Pollution Rules For Manure

Law360, New York (September 7, 2011, 5:01 PM EDT) -- A Maryland appeals court on Tuesday upheld the state environmental regulator’s decision to grant a general discharge permit for poultry farms that handle large amounts of manure, over environmental groups’ allegations that the permit wasn’t stringent enough.

The Maryland Court of Special Appeals held that the Maryland Department of the Environment acted within federal and state law in granting the permit, which Assateague Coastkeeper and two other citizens' groups claimed flouted environmental standards and was issued based on insufficient evidence.
