Oil Refinery's Toxic Gas Leaks Violate CAA: DOJ

Law360, New York (September 7, 2011, 7:44 PM EDT) -- Prosecutors filed criminal charges on Tuesday against Pelican Refining Co. LLC in Louisiana federal court for allegedly violating the Clear Air Act by not taking measures to prevent toxins from being released into the atmosphere.

In a criminal information filed in the case, prosecutors accuse the Texas-based oil company of violating an operating permit by releasing benzene, ethylbenzene, toluene, xylene and hydrogen sulfide from its facility in Lake Charles, La.
