EU Court Confirms Cooperation Policy For Leniency

Law360, New York (September 9, 2011, 4:22 PM EDT) -- A European Union court on Friday upheld a €30 million ($41 million) cartel fine against tobacco processor Deltafina SpA, confirming for the first time that whistleblowers are not guaranteed full immunity if they don't completely cooperate with antitrust authorities.

The EU General Court also maintained a €24 million penalty on North Carolina-based Alliance One International, which was also fined in 2005 for two of its subsidiaries' alleged roles in a long-running cartel among tobacco processors in Italy to fix the prices they would pay growers for...
