ABA Proposes Changes To Cross-Border Practice Rules

Law360, New York (September 9, 2011, 5:11 PM EDT) -- Attorneys could be allowed to practice and reach out to clients in other jurisdictions sooner and with fewer barriers, as the American Bar Association on Thursday released draft opinions to clarify and alter rules affecting cross-border practice and lawyer mobility.

The ABA is seeking comments on several recommendations for the ethical issues surrounding the globalization of law practice, so that lawyers would have to clear fewer barriers to practice in new places and clear up inconsistencies with individual jurisdictions' rules of professional conduct.
