Dam Operators Must Face Salmon Protection Suits: Judge

Law360, Washington (September 9, 2011, 4:55 PM EDT) -- A Maine federal judge on Friday affirmed a magistrate judge's recommendation that Endangered Species Act suits brought by environmental groups against Topsham Hydro Partners Ltd. Partnership and Miller Hydro Group over Atlantic salmon protection should continue.

Friends of Merrymeeting Bay and Environment Maine filed four complaints in February against hydroelectric dam operators on the Kennebec and Androscoggin rivers, saying that their operations threatened the extinction of Maine's Atlantic salmon population, which was listed as endangered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and National Marine Fisheries...
