House Dems Ask US To Seek Stay On Drilling Lease Order

Law360, New York (September 9, 2011, 6:48 PM EDT) -- Ranking Democrats on the House Committee on Natural Resources asked the federal government Friday to try to block a judge's order nixing restrictions on oil and gas drilling permits, as the U.S. Department of the Interior crafts new guidelines for environmental review exemptions.

Reps. Edward J. Markey, D-Mass., and Rush Holt, D-N.J., asked the U.S. Department of Justice to seek an appeal and stay of the order, noting that they were pleased the DOI was enacting a formal rule governing exemptions to National Environmental Policy Act...
