EPA 'Enviro Justice' Plan Aims To Protect Disadvantaged

Law360, New York (September 14, 2011, 5:27 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency released a plan Wednesday to give local communities a stronger voice in the permitting process, as part of a strategy to meet a Clinton-era mandate that it ensure “environmental justice” for low-income and minority people.

As part of its three-year plan, the EPA is also aiming to make environmental justice a priority for enforcement, rule-making and science, and to partner with local governments and organizations to ensure low-income and minority people are not disproportionately impacted by pollution.
