Church OK To Fire Worker For Marrying Outside Faith

Law360, New York (June 18, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A youth protection advocate has been dealt a blow in her wrongful termination suit against the Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix, with a federal court ruling that the church was within its rights to fire her for marrying outside of the faith.

U.S. District Judge Stephen M. McNamee ruled on May 24 that the Phoenix diocese was entitled to terminate Jennifer O’Connor in January 2005 after she married outside the Catholic church in December 2004 because she was no longer in full communion with the church...
