Strengthening Pipeline Safety Requirements

Law360, New York (September 19, 2011, 2:45 PM EDT) -- In response to growing public concerns stemming from incidents such as the recent gas pipeline rupture in San Bruno, Calif., which resulted in eight deaths and considerable property damage, the U.S. Department of Transportation's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration ("PHMSA") has issued an advance notice of proposed rulemaking ("ANPRM") requesting comments on a number of changes being considered to strengthen and expand the integrity management ("IM") and non-IM requirements that apply to natural gas transmission pipelines.
