President Signs Bill Raising USPTO Fees

Law360, New York (December 10, 2004, 12:00 AM EST) -- President George W. Bush has signed a bill that will immediately raise and restructure fees at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

The president signed H.R. 4818, the 2005 Omnibus Appropriations Bill passed by the Senate last month, on Wednesday. The new patent fees became effective immediately, while new trademark fees will take effect after rulemaking.

Under the new fee schedule, the patent filing fee will increase from $790 to $1,000, which includes $300 for filing, $200 for examination, and $500 for search.
