Wal-Mart Targeted In 1st Suit Over Contaminated Melons

Law360, New York (September 15, 2011, 6:40 PM EDT) -- In the first lawsuit filed over a deadly multistate Listeria outbreak traced to cantaloupes, a Colorado man sued Jensen Farms and Wal-Mart Stores Inc. in state court Thursday after he allegedly contracted listeriosis from one of the farm's melons.

The listeria outbreak has infected 22 people from seven states and resulted in two deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The outbreak was first traced back to cantaloupes from the Rocky Ford growing region of Colorado. The source was then narrowed down to...
